Technically, you can cover a lot, but it’s rarely a good idea. Sardinia is a large island, and its most beautiful places are scattered along different coasts. If you spend several hours driving every day, your holiday can quickly turn into a road trip. It’s better to choose one or two areas and explore them at a relaxed pace.
Yes — especially if you stay in Alghero, Cagliari, or another well-connected area and don’t plan to travel around the island every day. However, a car gives you much more freedom to explore beautiful remote beaches, small towns, and natural attractions. Public transport is available, but it’s not always convenient for an active itinerary.
For a beach holiday, the most popular period is summer and early autumn. July and especially August are the busiest months, with higher prices, more visitors and heavier traffic. If you prefer warm sea temperatures and a more relaxed atmosphere, June and September are excellent choices. Spring and autumn are perfect for exploring the island, its towns and nature, as well as for outdoor activities. Overall, Sardinia is a great destination all year round.
