The Most Beautiful Coastal Routes in Sardinia
Sardinia has over 1,800 kilometres of coastline, and some of its most beautiful beaches are surprisingly close to each other. With a well-planned route, you can discover several different sides of the island in just one day — from white sandy beaches to hidden coves with crystal-clear turquoise waters.
Northern Sardinia: From Stintino to Costa Paradiso

Northern Sardinia is one of the island's most scenic regions, where white sandy beaches alternate with rocky coves and turquoise waters contrast with red granite cliffs. This coastal route is perfect for exploring Sardinia's diverse landscapes in one trip.

Start in Stintino at the famous La Pelosa Beach, known for its fine white sand, shallow waters and views of Asinara Island. Then head north along the coast through Castelsardo to Costa Paradiso, with its granite cliffs, small coves and spectacular sea views.

Don't miss Li Cossi Beach, a picturesque beach reached by a short coastal path through the rocks. Here you'll discover a wilder, more peaceful side of Sardinia.

Duration: 1–2 days. A rental car is recommended for a comfortable trip.

Southern Sardinia: From Cagliari to Villasimius

Southern Sardinia is famous for its long sandy beaches, picturesque coves and crystal-clear waters. This coastal route is perfect for combining beach relaxation with scenic views and the island's natural beauty.

Start in Cagliari at Poetto Beach, stretching for about eight kilometres along the coast. Then follow the scenic SP17 road towards Villasimius. Along the way, stop at Mari Pintau Beach, famous for its stunning turquoise waters, and visit Cala Regina, a rocky cove surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation.

Finish your journey at Porto Giunco and Simius beaches in Villasimius. Here you'll find fine white sand, clear waters and Notteri Lagoon, where pink flamingos can sometimes be seen. For spectacular coastal views, visit the historic Porto Giunco Tower.

Duration: 1–2 days. A rental car is recommended for exploring the beaches and scenic viewpoints.

Western Sardinia: From Alghero to Oristano

Western Sardinia is perfect for nature lovers, with wide sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs and spectacular coastal scenery. Here, rocky shores meet sand dunes, while small coves alternate with long stretches of unspoiled coastline.

Start your journey in Alghero, visiting Maria Pia and Le Bombarde beaches. Then follow the scenic coastal road towards Bosa, one of Sardinia's most beautiful towns. Stop at panoramic viewpoints along the way to admire the dramatic cliffs and sea views. In Bosa, relax at Bosa Marina Beach and explore the colourful streets of the old town.

Continue to the Sinis Peninsula, home to the famous beaches of Is Arutas and Mari Ermi. Instead of ordinary sand, you'll find tiny, rounded quartz grains resembling grains of rice. Crystal-clear waters, open sea views and a unique coastline make these beaches some of Sardinia's most memorable.

Duration: 2 days. A rental car is recommended for exploring the coast.
